See chart below.   Note that DTW (Detroit, U.S.) is near the average line. 

DETROIT, MI
An airport the size / capacity of our project in Detroit would require 2,700 parking spaces.

MEXICO CITY
An airport the size / capacity of our project in Mexico City would require about (.5) x 2,700 parking spaces = 1,350 parking spaces.   This is due to less of a demand for car-parking since cars are more of a luxury in Mexico than the U.S. and there is more mass-transit.

AUSTIN, TX
An airport the size / capacity of our project in Austin would require about (2) x 2,700 parking spaces = 5,400 parking spaces.   This is due to more of a demand for car-parking because of the large number of wealthier passengers who want to use their own car and there is little mass-transit.

Your group needs to determine how many space you need for your particular city.

“You can assume an airport terminal with 4 gates and 800 peak-hour passengers to generate between 1.0 million and 1.3 million annual enplanements. ”
