Semester Design Project: High-Rise Design

Urban high-rise design.

Austin, TX
Bowie, between 5th/6th.

To design a fully-integrated multi-use facility, with residential tower.
(Architecture + Egress + Structure + MEP + Sustainability).

Preliminary Program:
– Retail / Restaurant space at Ground floor.
– Office space at 2nd floor and above.
– Condominium residences in tower.
– Loading/Unloading space for semi-trailers + services (trash, etc.)

Ht. limits and setbacks:
1. Top occupied unit to not exceed 420′
2. Capitol View Corridor applies. Minimal projection into this air space in allowed.
3. Parking garage to be no more than 6 levels underground.
4. Maintain a 20′ minimum setback from all streets to your building, and a 20′ minimum setback from the top of creek (contour 460) to your building.

Upcoming Calendar:
Project week 1 – Research precedent, context, and develop feasibility options (massing solutions).
Project week 2 – Develop final massing solution and circulation strategies.
Project week 3 – Develop Revit Arch. model of final solution. Deadline at end of week.
Project week 4 – Develop Revit model details.

– Example residential unit floor plan.
