Structural Hand Calculations (2013)

In this exercise, the schematic design of a rectangular office building is carried out by hand.  The goal is to touch briefly on all the aspects of the schematic structural design process from reviewing design codes to selecting structural members.  A previous problem statement and a student’s calculations are provided below.

(The PDF for the calculations documents a student’s entire specialization.  Pages 1-5 are all that apply to hand calculations.)
